Smugglers Spirits Among Best Gins In Scotland
Everyone at Smugglers Spirits is so excited and proud to announce that our gin range has won five awards at the World Gin Awards 2023, including our first gold medals!
Smugglers Gin won Gold in the London Dry Gin category.
The World Gin Awards select and recognise the best gins in the world through a rigorous judging process, including multiple rounds of blind tasting where aroma, flavour and finish are all taken into consideration.
Gin brands from all over the world take part in the awards and are ranked with bronze, silver and gold medals - with gold being the best gin in their country category. Gold winners then battle it out to receive the title of Best Gin In The World.
Of the five expressions we submitted, all five won medals! Our gold medal winning gins are our citrus flavoured flagship gin Smugglers Gin, which was named Best London Dry In Scotland and Smugglers Strawberry Gin, which won Best Flavoured Gin In Scotland! Our Navy Strength gin Old Sins won a silver medal, while our flavoured Orange Gin and Raspberry Gin both picked up bronze medals. Must be something to do with all those delicious naturally grown, hand harvested botanicals!
Smugglers Strawberry Gin won Gold in the Flavoured Gin category, Smugglers Orange and Raspberry Gins won Bronze.
The World Drinks Awards are presented each year by TheDrinksReport.com. They say,
“The awards have grown beyond early recognition and now prove popular with both producers and consumers, as we all seek a slice of the World’s Best.”
To say we are thrilled that 2 of our gins are among the best gins in Scotland would be an understatement! Having entered the market fairly recently, this achievement marks a key milestone for our small spirits brand. Smugglers Gin especially was up against some of the best and well-known gin brands in Scotland in the London Dry category, such as Edinburgh Gin and Eden Mill, but managed to cinch it with the judges in the final tasting!
Smugglers Spirits’ Director, Simon Keane, is delighted with the success of his gins. He comments:
“We’re absolutely over the moon that Smugglers Spirits has been recognised with five awards at The World Gin awards, especially with 2 golds in the London Dry and Flavoured Gin categories which are extremely competitive at the moment. Scotland has some of the best gins in the world so to achieve 5 medals in this category really makes us proud!”
Old Sins Gin won Silver in the Navy Strength Gin category.
Each award-winning gin in our range is made with carefully selected Scottish botanicals, naturally grown and hand harvested in the Pentland Hills surrounding Edinburgh. Our full-strength flavours are made with pure fruit juice and are completely natural, resulting in natural tasting fruity gins that are vibrant with a hint of sweetness. Our gins are inspired by tales of Edinburgh smugglers who ran the city in the 18th century, ensuring spirits remained a crucial part of Edinburgh life. Though our values of quality and sustainability are modernised, they are based on the grit and determination of the smugglers and the compelling history of Edinburgh. We are delighted that our gins have been recognised in such a high profile, global competition, and we hope these awards will help us in our mission to share sustainable Scottish spirits far and wide!
